Payroll Administrator

We are looking for a Part Time Payroll Administrator (20 hours a week). to join our Finance Team at Thermatic Group.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Payroll Administrator to support our monthly payroll process and manage engineer timesheet data. This role focuses on the accurate preparation and coordination of payroll information for submission to an external payroll provider, alongside reviewing and validating timesheets. Strong Excel skills and a high level of accuracy are essential.

Hours & Location of Work:

Main location - Our head office is based in Salford, Manchester. Opportunities to work remotely working are available, however some office presence is preferred but not required.


20 hours per week , Flexible schedule (e.g., 4 hours per day or 2–3 full days per week, Flexibility required around month-end and payroll deadlines.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Behaviours:

  • Previous experience in a payroll or payroll support role
  • Experience preparing data for outsourced payroll providers
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, lookups, data validation)
  • Experience working with timesheets or time-tracking systems, ideally within an engineering or field-based environment
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies in data
  • Good communication skills and ability to liaise across teams
  • Payroll-related qualification desirable but not essential
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and collate monthly payroll data for submission to an external payroll provider
  • Maintain and update payroll records, including new starters, leavers, and changes to pay
  • Review, validate, and consolidate engineer timesheets prior to payroll submission
  • Use Excel to analyse timesheet data, identify discrepancies, and ensure correct allocation of hours
  • Calculate wages, overtime, bonuses, and deductions ready for payroll processing
  • Act as the main point of contact for payroll-related queries from employees and engineers
  • Liaise with the external payroll provider to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing
  • Reconcile payroll reports and support finance with month-end processes
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records
